Synurbanization in wood pigeon (Columba palumbus) and Eurasian magpie (Pica pica)

Both Eurasian magpie and Wood pigeon are typical synanthropic bird species. By studying the available sources, I found that during their synurbanisation, both species have undergone several changes that have facilitated their transition from rural to urban habitats. Due to their adaptability, they have no problems colonizing urban environment and have managed to occupy new and diverse range of nest sites. Thanks to synurbanisation, both Magpie and Wood Pigeon have been able to expand their range and increase their overall abundance. Possibly the biggest threat to urban populations of both species is nest predation, which locally leads to declining population trends and reduced breeding success. Because of predation pressure and the adaptability of both species, I think we can expect not only an increase in abundance and population density in their urban population in the future, but also the occupation of new and more diverse nesting habitats in closer proximity to human settlements.
Reintroduction of butterflies (Lepidoptera)

The thesis deals with one of the active means of conservation - reintroduction. By this ap- proach, organisms are released in their historical range from which they have disappeared. Re- introductions typically concern vertebrates, that is, however, why this thesis focuses on a group of invertebrates - butterflies (Rhopalocera). The main aim of this work is to carry out a research of previous experiments, evaluate used methods and discover the best way to proceed with reintroduction of butterflies. This process contains many important steps. Firstly, a suitable species must be chosen, that means one that is declining and has limited dispersal abilities. Secondly, an appropriate habitat for releasing organisms must be found - host plants ought to be sufficiently abundant and the area big enough. If the habitat quality is not satisfactory, it can be achieved through management, most commonly by planting host plants, mowing or grazing. Next step is choosing the right donor population. It should be stable, genetically variable, and genetically and ecologically related to the original extinct population. After transfer and release of sufficient number of organisms, it is crucial to carry out a long-term monitoring of the newly formed population and to modify its management when necessary. Comparison of reproductive parameters of Central European populations of the critically endangered Hermit butterfly (Chazara briseis)

The Hermit butterfly Chazara briseis is a species from the family Nymphalidae, inhabiting mostly short-stemmed dry steppes. In Central Europe, it is critically endangered. It is therefore currently the subject of many conservation activities, including reintroductions. In such translocations of individuals, it is important that the native and source populations be as closely related as possible in all respects. Therefore, individuals of two forms of this species, Ch. briseis pannonica (Austrian population) and Ch. briseis bataia (Czech population) were bred and their reproductive characteristics were recorded and the differences between the two forms were observed. During two seasons 5 Austrian and 8 Czech females were successfully bred. The Austrian and Czech populations differed mainly in the timing of adult hatching and the beginning of the laying of eggs by females - Austrian individuals are phenologically shifted to one week to 14 days earlier. Individual populations of the same species may also differ from each other in the presence of Wolbachia pipientis. The Theses deals with applications of mathematical knowledge in teaching biology and it is divided into four chapters. Each chapter is dedicated to another application: 1. Application of conditional probability in medical diagnostics, 2. Application of exponential function in population ecology, 3. Application of logic functions in mathematical modelation of neuron and 4. Aplication of binomial theorem and binomial distribution in genetics. Each application contains solved problems, a worksheet for students and a solution for each worksheet. Two application (1. and 2.) have been tested in teaching and as an assessment of my lessons students filled questionnaires. Results of these questionnaires are processed in the end of these chapters. This Thesis can be used in teaching or self-studying.

If it proceeds at current pace, it will lead to homogenization and pose a serious threat to biodiversity. Birds, as one of the most researched taxonomic groups, are successfully used as indicators of biodiversity of the whole ecosystems, and thus offer an excellent opportunity to study the overall impact of climate change. We use data from repeated annual monitoring programmes in Czech Republic, Breeding Bird Monitoring Programe, based on point counts, and Constant Effort Sites mist- netting ringing programme, capture-mark-recapture schema. We found that: 1. Population growth of 6 out of 37 resident species responded negatively to seasons with lower winter temperatures. The response was stronger in species feeding on animals. 2. Telemetrie hmyzu se zaměřením na tesaříka obrovského (\kur{Cerambyx cerdo})

In this thesis, I studied the dispersal patterns of the Great Capricorn beetle Cerambyx cerdo (Coleoptera: Carambycidae), an endangered veteran tree specialist. Using the modern method of radio-tracking I determined the movement probability and dispersal capacity of C. cerdo individuals during 14 days period at two sites in Slovakia. I also assessed the differences in movement distances between the males and females and between the two studied sites. Finally, I presented other telemetry techniques, which are frequently used to track different insect species.

Demography and dispersal ability of the Alpine Longhorn \kur{Rosalia alpina} (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae)

This Master Thesis brings results of study on endangered species Alpine Longhorn Rosalia alpina in beech forest of National Nature Reserve Maly and Velky Bezdez and Slatinne Hills. We used mark-recapture method to study the population size, longevity and dispersal ability of this species. We also assessed the distribution pattern of the species on another 15 habitat patches in the Ralska Upland.
